Monday, August 1, 2011 - Filing for Florida Unemployment is Now ONLY Online

As of August 1, 2011, Floridians who file for unemployment benefits must now do so online. Remember that Hugh Embry Branch Library has Internet-connected computers that will make filing for unemployment easy for you. If you own a laptop, but don't have Internet access, wireless access is available at the library. Stop by the library to claim your unemployment benefits.
Florida's Unemployment system is undergoing three new changes starting August 1.
--First, all claims must be filed over the Internet.
--Second, recipients will also have to provide proof of contact with at least 5 potential employers per week.
--Third, another new mandate requires claimants to complete an online skills review test, to streamline their job search.
The online-only switch is aimed at saving the state $4.7 million dollars a year in administrative costs.

If people on unemployment are not able to make contact with at least five potential employers, a visit with a representative from a One-Stop Career Center will also satisfy the new requirements.
